9/30/2010 Dinner @ Out the Door

The one on the right was a delicious Roussane from a Donkey and Goat. They serve wine on tap which is cheaper because the restaurant doesn't pay for bottling. Interesting!
Rolls with peanut sauce. Very good.

Rice crepe w/ pork and various other things. The brown thing on top was crispy and delicious.
Shrimp with peppers on left. Halibut with tomatoes on right. Delicious broth for both.
Egg custard on the left (so good) and coconut steamed rice w/ banana on right.

9/30/2010 Lunch @ Home

A little salmon and rice leftovers for a quick lunch at home before work. It tasted much better than it looked.  The Salmon was just broiled with a little seasoning and the rice was a mix I bought in Fort Bragg of just brown rice, some garlic and a few other seasonings.

9/26/2010 Dinner @ Home

my bad, i didn't realize this was already starting. also, given my primitive little phone, i cant promise to keep up super effectively, but we'll see what happens. either way, here is sunday night's dindin - pork country ribs marinated in a dates/garlic/sherry/brown sugar thing and then cooked with some onion, bell pepper, half a jalapeno and some spices, served over saffron egg noodles. some cauliflower (multicolored!!) with a simple cheddar and mushroom sauce on the side. not a bad way to start off.

Dinner 9/28/2010 @ Home

The corn cakes by themselves (they are covered below)

Too much to describe! See Below for details!
This recipe included:

  • Homemade corn cakes with Cotija cheese (Martha Stewart recipe)
  • Topped with ground beef w/ fresh garlic
  • Also topped with fresh avocado, tomatoes, sour cream, cotija cheese, salsa (from Costco)
  • Black beans topped with cotija cheese
FYI, cotija cheese is delicious.

9/27/2010 Dinner @ Long Bar and Bistro

I was very disappointed with Long Bar and Bistro. Took us over an hour to get our food. When we got it, my burger was overcooked and Beth's meal was entirely devoid of Shrimp, despite these delicious sea creatures being a part of the dish's name.

My half-eaten burger with the remnants of mac and cheese.

Rock Shrimp Risotto minus the shrimp w/ English Peas and Asparagus.

Bright spot of the meal! Corn cakes w/ Shrimp with Aioli, cherry tomatoes, balsamic vinegar. Yum!

9/26/2010 Sunday Night Dinner @ Home

Tonight we're experimenting a little:
  • Chicken thighs
  • Placed on top of lemon slices
  • Fresh lemon juice over the top
  • Honey over the top
  • Fresh peaches put within
  • Salt, pepper
  • Cook at 375 degrees in the oven for approx. 30-40 minutes.
Chicken (pre-oven)
Mixed greens, sliced pears, Gorgonzola, walnuts, cranberries, salad dressing

Cooked chicken

The chicken was good but a little light on flavor. We're going to give it another go with a few changes:

  • Marinate the chicken thighs for a few hours with lemon and honey
  • Don't cook the chicken in lemon juice. We think the lemon juice plus juice that came from chicken drowned it and zeroed out the other flavors (still cook on lemon slices, though)
  • Cook longer at a lower temperature to let the flavors soak in
The peaches were delightful and the chicken was still quite juicy (with vague hints of lemon and honey). Hopefully next time we can pack it in more.

9/25/2010 Saturday Night Dinner @ Kim's

MNF: Niners, Ribs, and Vino

Last night we all got to enjoy some grilled boneless bbq pork ribs, homemade french fries and strawberry /fig /avocado /tomato/spinach salad. As usual, we broke open some bottles of wine (Mike I have no idea what that bottle was called from TJ.) Enjoying some good food and good company is what Monday Night Football is all about.

After that reversed call on the 2 point conversion, we thought we might have a chance to still be in the game. Unfortunately we were disappointed by the Niners defense when it came down to the last minute in the 4th quarter. With the seconds counting down, the field goal looked like it was being deflected. The kick still made it and the Niners lost to the Saints by 3 points. All in all, a good effort by Niners, but just not good enough!
